Welcome back to
the “Computer Corner.” Let me begin by saying we are having an
incredible year in the Computer Lab. Our students are working very
hard in here and are making unforeseen improvements in their
computer skills. From the most experienced 8th grader to
the newest Pre-School student, our children are preparing themselves
for the technologically savvy “real world.”
I would like to
begin by discussing the amazing progress of the Junior High in
regards to their typing speed. As you can see from the charts
below, the students have made an average gain of over 20 words per
minute, and continue to improve with each passing week. In fact,
one of our students tested at over 54 words per minute…with zero
mistakes. Their other efforts include becoming very experienced
with the Power Point and Excel programs. If you ask their teachers,
they will tell you that these students can create a Power Point
presentation that will knock your socks off.

The 3rd,
4th and 5th graders are working very hard at
familiarizing themselves with Microsoft Word as well as with the
Internet. These students are slowly but surely becoming comfortable
getting around on the computer. They can go to the internet by
themselves and navigate their way through an internet research
project. The younger students (Pre-K through 2nd grade)
are spending the majority of their time building the dexterity
needed to get around the computer. They are working with the mouse,
learning the keyboard, and developing a familiarity with the way
Microsoft Windows works.
It’s been a
great year so far. With still more time to go, we expect that these
students will continue to grow in their technological knowledge.
The tools these students are picking up will pay huge rewards as
they continue their education here at Epiphany School and beyond.
Sincerely,
Mr.
