ATTENDANCE
Parents/guardians are required by Illinois School Law to have their
children in school every day it is in session except in cases of illness,
disability or death in the family. Regular and punctual attendance is
essential. The child, who is absent, misses classroom instruction and
participation in discussion and activities, which cannot be made up.
Absence for reasons other than illness, disability or death in the family
should be avoided if possible. Every effort should be made to avoid
appointments for your children during the school hours: 8:00 a.m. – 2:35
p.m. on full-days; 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on half-days.
Any student who is absent 30 or more days could be retained, required to
attend summer school, or be tutored if the student’s grades warrant such
action. All full-day and all half-day absences will be counted towards the
yearly total.
Vacations during the school year are discouraged. The principal upon
written parental request gives permission for such trips. Should a
vacation be necessary, students will make up assignments when they return.
It is the parent’s responsibility to assist the child in all make-up work.
An outside tutor may be necessary. The teacher will assign the date the
work is due.
It is expected that work missed due to any absence will be made up upon
the student’s return to school. Teachers are not required to give
schoolwork prior to an absence.
In the event of inclement weather, the students may enter the building and
proceed to their classrooms. They are to stay out in the hall until the
teacher is present.
Junior High students are permitted to visit High Schools during the
schedule Shadow Days. Students are encouraged to attend the High School
Open Houses and to visit the High Schools on any day Epiphany is not in
session.
No report cards will be given out before the last day of school. Students
who are absent on the day final report cards are distributed will receive
their report cards through the mail.
